Make a Night of It
Have you ever been over at a friend’s house watching football, only to get the impression that it’s time for you to leave? This is an awkward, uncomfortable situation, especially when the last Sunday game isn’t over yet. There’s an easy way to fix this; just have the party somewhere else. One of the best places to get together is out at the sports bar, and you’ll never get that awkward feeling when your buddy tells you that his wife wants you and the others to get going so she can go to bed.
Keep the Party Going
When you’re out away from home, you don’t have to worry about bedtimes, about waking the kids up, or making a mess that will need to be cleaned up later. You’re out at the sports bar for a few reasons, and one of them is that you don’t have to worry about being a nuisance. Everyone who’s there is there because they want to be. Yes, the place might close later in the evening, but by that time, the game will be over and it will be time to get home anyway. The point is that you don’t need to worry about being an inconvenience to your family or your friends’ family. You’re out where you’re more than welcome and you can keep the fun coming until you’re ready for it to end.
Or, what happens if you’re the only one that can get together that weekend? Watching games by yourself is fun, but it’s usually more fun to be with people. Going out to the sports bar by yourself might seem weird at first, but once you’re there and having fun, this won’t even be a thought. There will be other people out, too, and some of them you might already know. Also, the more you do go out, the more likely you are to meet the regulars. This way, you’ll always have a backup crew to hang out with if your other friends all bail on you. Meeting new people is easy when you’re out, too. This sense of unpredictability cannot be replicated in the solitude of your mancave, even when your friends do make it over for the game.
Leave When You Want
Sometimes the opposite happens. Sometimes the guys come over to your place, and you need to them to leave early for some reason or another. It’s not a fun thing to have to do, but it can happen once in a while. When you’re out at the bar, leaving is easy to do at any time. You don’t have to worry about keeping people happy because you’re the host. Even if you were the one that put everything together, it’s fine for you to leave because the party can keep going independently of you. That’s another big perk of having your football parties at a neutral location. Even if you need to go, your friends don’t need to suffer as a result. And you won’t need to deal with the backlash of it next week, either.
The sports bar doesn’t need to be an afterthought. If you mix it into your regular meeting schedule, it will quickly become a favorite spot. It might even become the only spot you and the guys get together at for big games. They have everything you could want out of a party spot—endless food, drinks, games, and so on—and they won’t kick you out because it’s close to bedtime. It’s important that you find a spot that everyone likes and that everyone can have fun at, and the sports bar might be the easiest spot to make this happen.
